Description
The Rechargeable Battery Pack is housed in a slim rectangular casing with integrated contacts for direct connection to a device’s internal power terminals. It was included as standard with all original 3DS models and remains compatible with certain later revisions, though higher-capacity variants were introduced for XL models. It delivers a nominal voltage of 3.7V and a capacity of approximately 1300mAh, supporting several hours of continuous play depending on software and wireless usage. The unit is removable and replaceable, secured by a rear compartment cover, and charges via the system’s AC adapter or docking cradle.
Beyond its role in the 3DS family, the battery model was also used in Nintendo’s Wii U Pro Controller and the Switch Pro Controller, reflecting Nintendo’s common approach to re-use components across hardware lines e.g. the optional GBA battery in the WaveBird. Retrospective the standardised components used in Nintendo’s design philosophy provide longevity and easy replacements across multiple generations of hardware.
