Dragon Advance Boy SP Electronic Adaptor

Third party multi-voltage AC Adapter with an European plug for the GameBoy Advance SP. The same power connector was used by the original Nintendo DS systems. Early systems, such as the Game Boy Advance, and later systems, such as the DSi and DS Lite, were not supported.

Description

The Dragon Advance Boy SP Electronic Adaptor was one of many aftermarket accessories produced during the Game Boy Advance SP’s retail lifespan. Unlike Nintendo’s official adaptor (model AGS‑002), which was bundled with the console and later cross‑compatible with the original Nintendo DS, the Dragon‑branded adaptor was sold as a low‑cost standalone option.

Packaging typically emphasised compatibility with the “Advance Boy SP” (a literal translation of the Japanese branding for the GBA SP), and the unit itself mirrored the form factor of Nintendo’s official charger, with a fixed cable terminating in the proprietary SP/DS connector. Dragon units replicated the official output of DC 5.2V at ~320mA, designed for safe charging of the SP’s rechargeable battery. Build quality and casing materials were generally lighter than Nintendo’s official hardware, but ultimately these were entirely functional for their time.
