A 4x memory card. Operates like a regular Controller Pak, with a physical button to switch between 4 separate memory cards.
Description
The Memory Card Plus is a third‑party memory card for the N64, designed as a cost‑effective alternative to Nintendo’s official memory card. It functions exactly like a standard Controller Pak, plugging into the rear slot of the N64 controller to provide save data storage for games that did not use the cartridge’s built‑in battery.
What distinguished the Memory Card Plus was its quadruple capacity design. Internally, it contained four separate memory banks, each equivalent to a full Controller Pak. A small physical button on the front of the unit allowed players to cycle between banks, effectively giving them four memory cards in one.
The casing was black plastic. While convenient, the design had drawbacks: switching banks mid‑game could cause confusion, since there was no way to know which bank you were currently set to. Some titles were finicky about recognising third‑party memory cards and particularly if you needed to switch banks.
Despite the imperfections, for players with multiple save‑heavy games, the Memory Card Plus offered a practical way to expand storage without juggling multiple official Controller Paks.
