Mario Kart World
マリオカートワールドPhysical game card of Mario Kart World from launch.
Description
The sixteenth main entry in the Mario Kart series and the first to be a launch game. The game marks a significant departure from traditional circuit-based design, blending structured competition with emergent exploration. Its development began in 2017 and shifted to Switch 2 hardware in 2020 to accommodate the scale and complexity of its open-world ambitions. It introduces a fully interconnected open world where players can drive between courses, explore freely, and engage in new modes like Knockout Tour and Free Roam. Races now support up to 24 players, and mechanics such as Charge Jump, Wall Ride, and Rewind add layers of technical depth to the familiar kart racing formula. Reception has been broadly positive and it has provided an excellent start to Nintendo’s next generation console.
