Description
Nintendo Labo Toy‑Con 03: Vehicle Kit software presents three main vehicle modes: Car, Submarine, and Plane. Each is activated by inserting a Joy‑Con into a removable Key, with a separate Pedal providing acceleration input. Swapping the Key between vehicles instantly changes the on‑screen mode, allowing seamless movement between driving, diving, and flying. The software features a large exploratory environment where players race, battle, and uncover hidden areas. Each vehicle has distinct mechanics, with the Car able to perform wheelies and extend punching arms, the Submarine deploying a grappling hook, and the Plane executing aerial manoeuvres.
Beyond the main environment, the programme includes mini‑games and discovery modules. These explain how the Joy‑Con sensors such as the infrared motion camera and gyroscope interact with the cardboard mechanisms, reinforcing the “Make, Play, Discover” ethos of the Labo line. It also incorporates the Toy‑Con Garage programming environment, enabling players to create custom interactions and extend play. Compared with earlier Labo releases, the Vehicle Kit software offers longer play value and more varied mechanics, positioning it as one of the more substantial entries in the series.
Reception at release praised the novelty of combining cardboard builds with responsive vehicle play, while some critics noted limited depth beyond the initial exploration. The Vehicle Kit software is remembered as the most expansive of the Labo sets, valued for its variety of vehicles and for demonstrating Nintendo’s continued experimentation with hybrid physical‑digital play. It remains a clear example of how the Labo line connected craft and software into a single experience.
