Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition is an enhanced port of the 2014 Wii U game Hyrule Warriors. It was also ported to the Nintendo 3DS. An original sequel was subsequently released for the Switch. It combines all the content from the original Wii U release and the expanded Hyrule Warriors Legends (2016, 3DS), along with every piece of DLC.

The story spans multiple original plots woven together with familiar Zelda themes, characters, and locales—ranging from the Zelda timeline to alternate takes and reimaginings. Though the story mode can feel repetitive solo, it shines in cooperative play, making battles feel dynamic and engaging. The Switch edition includes the full Legend Mode story (with Cia’s Tale, Linkle’s Tale, and the Wind Wakerepilogue), the sprawling Adventure Mode maps, and a roster of nearly 30 playable characters with multiple weapon sets. It runs at 1080p in docked mode, supports two‑player split‑screen on a single console, and allows play with a single Joy‑Con per person.

The Definitive Edition adds quality-of-life improvements such as instant character switching on the fly, a “My Fairy” feature where players can raise and dress fairy companions that assist in battle, and a well-balanced Adventure Mode offering challenging missions with unlockable rewards like costumes, weapons, and special items. The Adventure Mode’s design encourages diverse playstyles, with missions scaled for character strengths and demands, eliminating previous grinding frustration. Exclusive to this version are Breath of the Wild‑inspired costumes for Link and Zelda, tying the spin‑off back to the Switch’s flagship Zelda title.
