Description

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is one of the most expansive and playful entries in the LEGO game line. It combines the familiar brick‑based humour and puzzle‑platforming with the full Marvel universe, letting players control a huge roster of heroes and villains across a sprawling adventure. The story follows an original plot where Loki, Doctor Doom, and other villains team up to build a “Doom Ray of Doom” using Cosmic Bricks scattered across the world. Nick Fury calls on the Avengers, and eventually dozens of other Marvel heroes, to stop them. The campaign moves through set‑piece missions inspired by iconic Marvel locations, from Stark Tower and the X‑Mansion to Asgard and Latveria.

The gameplay mixes linear story levels with a large open‑world New York City hub. In missions, you swap between characters to use their unique abilities: Spider‑Man swings and climbs walls, Iron Man flies and blasts with repulsors, Hulk smashes obstacles, and smaller characters can slip through tight spaces. Outside missions, the hub world offers side quests, collectibles, and free‑roaming exploration, making it one of the first LEGO titles to feel like a full superhero sandbox. The game features split‑screen co‑op allowing two players to tackle missions together. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions lack the graphical polish of newer systems, but the humour, variety of characters, and sheer scale of the Marvel roster remain.

The game was a highlight of the LEGO series, capturing the charm of Marvel comics and films while keeping the accessible, family‑friendly design that defines LEGO titles. It received a handheld adaption in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril (2014), and a sequel in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 (2017). These games continue the Marvel focus, expanding the roster and storylines while keeping the same Traveller’s Tales action‑adventure style.
