Dragon Quest

Since 1986 this is Japan’s most beloved traditional JRPG series. Known for Akira Toriyama’s character designs, Kōichi Sugiyama’s orchestral scores, and classic turn-based combat, each mainline entry tells a standalone heroic fantasy tale while retaining familiar monsters, spells, and charm. With over 80 million units sold, it’s a cultural touchstone in Japan and a global RPG icon. Nearly every game in the main series has either an anime or manga adaptation, or both. The series has had a significant impact on the development of console role-playing games, and introduced a number of features to the genre.
