Newbie must prove its worth by completing challenges across large, open environments while fending off the villainous Wild Cards, a rival group of rogue boxes. It adopts a bright, cartoonish style, with environments ranging from tropical islands to snowy mountains. The soundtrack complements the light‑hearted tone, reinforcing the game’s cheerful atmosphere.

Gameplay emphasises physics‑based movement. Newbie can roll, jump, and perform the “Unbox” mechanic — bursting open to reveal a fresh box inside, effectively granting extra jumps and extending traversal. This mechanic allows players to chain jumps across wide gaps, scale vertical structures, and explore hidden areas. Levels are filled with collectibles such as golden tape rolls and stamps, alongside missions ranging from races to combat encounters. The game supports both single‑player exploration and local multiplayer, with split‑screen modes offering competitive mini‑games like racing and target shooting. Customisation is also a feature, allowing players to decorate Newbie with hats, skins, and accessories, adding a playful layer of personality.

The “Unbox” mechanic is inventive, and the game has a positive colourful presentation, and nostalgic nods to platformers of the 1990s. However the controls can feel unwieldy and missions repetitive. Despite this, a solid indie platformer and distinctive experiment in physics‑driven character design.
