QSound
QSound is a proprietary 3D audio algorithm utilising sophisticated Head-Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs) to create a localised, 180-degree stereophonic soundscape from a two-speaker setup. Popularised in the 1990s, Capcom integrated QSound into their CPS-2 arcade boards and subsequent home console ports. This technology requires no specialised decoding hardware, as the spatial positioning is baked directly into the final two-channel mix.
