MIL CD Guide Card
A MIL‑CD single by the Japanese pop group dps (formerly Deeps), released by Pioneer LDC. It was one of the showcase titles for Sega’s short‑lived MIL‑CD format, designed for the Dreamcast to combine standard audio playback with multimedia extras such as video.
Description
The MIL‑CD format (Music Interactive Live CD) was Sega’s attempt to expand the appeal of the Dreamcast beyond games. It allowed music CDs to include additional digital content, such as videos, images, or interactive menus, when played on a Dreamcast console. Heartbreak Diary was one of the earliest and most prominent examples, often cited as a “flagship” MIL‑CD release.
The disc contains four audio tracks:
- HEARTBREAK DIARY [3:57]
- Lucky Summer Days [4:58]
- HEARTBREAK DIARY (Instrumental) [3:58]
- Lucky Summer Days (Instrumental) [4:55]
- HEARTBREAK DIARY (Video Clip)
When inserted into a Dreamcast, the disc could play both the audio tracks and the video for “Heartbreak Diary”, through the disc’s media player software. This was a key selling point of the MIL‑CD concept: the ability to merge conventional music releases with video content, without requiring a separate DVD player. As for the group dps, it was a short‑lived J‑pop act. The single itself did not achieve major chart success and is better remembered because of its association with the Dreamcast’s MIL‑CD format.
