An action–puzzle game where you use a fleet of demolition vehicles to clear a safe path for a runaway nuclear missile carrier.
Description
Blast Corps was Rare’s first Nintendo 64 release, built by a small team of recent graduates. The premise is stark: a pair of leaking nuclear warheads are locked on an automated carrier that cannot stop or change course. Any collision could trigger detonation, so the Blast Corps demolition team is tasked with destroying every obstacle in its path.
Across 57 levels, players switch between specialised vehicles: bulldozers, dump trucks, missile‑firing bikes, and giant mechs, each with unique demolition methods. Objectives range from ramming buildings and pushing TNT crates into structures, to bridging gaps and transporting timed explosives. The game blends frantic action with puzzle‑like planning, as players must quickly identify which vehicle and tactic will clear the way.
Blast Corps was praised for its originality, variety, and technical performance, though some reviewers noted its steep learning curve and repetition. It sold around one million copies worldwide and later reappeared in the 2015 Rare Replay compilation.
