Eye Shade
A component for the Virtual Boy for Nintendo Switch 2/Nintendo Switch headset that attaches to the outer edge of the visor, blocking out ambient light to enable comfortable play.
Description
The Eye Shade is an official reproduction of the original Virtual Boy Eye Shade (VUE-010), released with the Virtual Boy for Nintendo Switch 2/Nintendo Switch. It is a dedicated component and replaceable accessory for the peripheral. The Virtual Boy required a fully dark environment with ambient light causing both distraction and difficulty to regular use. Like the original Eye Shade, this consists of a flexible fabric strip that extends around the edge of the eye pieces, providing both a comfortable interface for the user’s face to press against in addition to its critical function of blocking out ambient light.
Although the design mimics the original, it operates in a more simplified way. The original attached to an intermediary plate, the Eye Shade Holder, which snapped in and around the eye pieces. This modern version is less complicating, attaching directly to the virtual boy unit itself. Regardless of this change in attachment method it remains a quiet but critical component to the Virtual Boy’s design, allowing the headset to be useful in anything less than a completely dark room.
