The official Nintendo Switch accessory designed to extend the playtime of Switch Joy‑Con controllers by powering them with two AA batteries each.
Description
The Joy‑Con AA Battery Pack Pair contains a pair of battery packs that clip onto the side of a Joy‑Con — there’s a dedicated left and right unit — and connects through the same rails used to attach them to the console or grip. Once attached, the packs trickle‑charge the Joy‑Con’s internal battery while you play, letting you go much longer between dock or grip charges. Nintendo includes alkaline AA batteries in the box, and you can also use rechargeable NiMH AAs. The packs add a bit of bulk and weight, which some players find improves comfort when using Joy‑Cons separately, as they feel more like a traditional controller grip.
They’re especially handy for long multiplayer sessions or travel, since you can swap in fresh AAs instantly instead of waiting for a recharge. The LED on each pack lights up while charging and turns off when the Joy‑Con is full or the batteries are depleted. Given the sometimes poor state of Joy-Con charging I always found these useful and definitely more comfortable. Try not to use disposable AA batteries though!
