Description

Bayonetta 3 expands the franchise’s scope into a multiverse narrative, directed by Yusuke Miyata under the supervision of series creator Hideki Kamiya. Bayonetta faces off against Homunculi, man‑made bioweapons led by the entity Singularity, who threatens to collapse all realities. The story introduces multiple alternate versions of Bayonetta and a new playable witch‑in‑training, Viola, who wields a katana and summons the demon Cheshire.

Gameplay retains the series’ hallmark stylish hack‑and‑slash combat, built around melee combos, gunplay, and perfectly timed dodges that trigger Witch Time. New mechanics include Demon Slave, allowing direct control of massive Infernal Demons during battle, and Demon Masquerade, where Bayonetta fuses with demons to gain new traversal and combat abilities. The campaign spans 14 chapters with additional side missions and collectibles.

The game was announced at The Game Awards in 2017 but went largely silent until its full reveal in 2021. Upon release it was well received, praised for its combat depth, variety, and presentation, despite performance limitations on the Switch hardware. By March 2023, it had sold over 1.07 million copies worldwide, making it a commercial success within the series.
