Linear PCM

Linear Pulse-Code Modulation (LPCM) is an uncompressed, lossless digital audio format representing sound as a sequence of quantized amplitude values. While 2-channel LPCM was the bedrock of Redbook CD-DA, multi-channel LPCM (5.1/7.1) emerged as a premium standard in the seventh generation via the PlayStation 3 and HDMI. Bypassing the need for lossy real-time encoding, LPCM delivers mathematically perfect audio fidelity directly from the console’s sound processor.
