Crysis 2 (Limited Edition)

A FPS that saw the franchise debut on consoles after its predecessor was years ahead of its time.

Description

Crysis 2 is Crytek’s ambitious sequel that brought the franchise from its PC roots to consoles, including the PlayStation 3. Built on the CryEngine 3, it was designed to showcase advanced graphical fidelity on hardware that was already several years old, with dynamic lighting, destructible environments, and large urban maps set in a devastated New York City. The campaign places players in the Nanosuit 2, a military exoskeleton that allowed cloaking, armour reinforcement, and tactical vision, giving the player adaptive abilities to approach combat in stealth or brute force.

On PS3, the game was praised for its technical achievement. Crytek managed to deliver a visually impressive experience despite the console’s limitations, though some noted it ran at a slightly lower resolution than the Xbox 360 and both suffered frame‑rate drops compared to the PC version. Multiplayer was developed by Crytek UK and emphasised verticality and suit powers, offering modes that blended traditional shooter mechanics with the unique abilities of the Nanosuit.

The Limited Edition came with an additional DLC code that provided bonus XP with day‑one access to five preset classes, a unique digital camouflage skin for the SCAR assault rifle, a hologram decoy attachment for the SCAR unlocked from the start, and a Platinum Dog Tag to display multiplayer rank and stats. These extras were bundled with the standard disc and manual, so it is the same game with some digital upsells.

Commercially, Crysis 2 was a success, selling millions of copies worldwide and establishing the series as a multi‑platform brand rather than a PC‑exclusive. It was one of the more technically ambitious shooters of its generation, particularly for bringing the “PC benchmark” reputation of Crysis into console living rooms.
