Mega CD
The Sega Mega-CD is a fourth generation CD-ROM add-on for the Sega Mega Drive, developed by Sega and released in Japan in 1991. It expanded the capabilities of the Mega Drive by enabling CD-based games with enhanced audio, storage, and full-motion video. The add-on introduced new gameplay experiences but faced limited third-party support and high costs. It competed indirectly with early CD-based platforms and was followed by the 32X as part of Sega’s short-lived hardware expansion strategy.
