Seima Densetsu 3×3 Eyes

せいでんせつ 3×3サザンEYESアイズ

A Japan‑exclusive Sega Mega‑CD RPG adaptation of Yuzo Takada’s cult manga and OVA series, blending traditional turn‑based gameplay with fully voiced, anime‑style storytelling.

Description

Seima Densetsu 3×3 Eyes (Legend of the Divine Demon) adapts the early arcs of Yuzo Takada’s dark supernatural adventure manga into a fully voiced, anime‑infused RPG. The story follows Pai, the last of the mystical Sanjiyan Unkara, who journeys from Tibet to Japan in search of a relic that can make her human. After a deadly encounter with a demon, she resurrects Yakumo, the son of a professor who once aided her, binding his soul to hers and making him her immortal Wu. Together, they set out to find the Ningen‑no‑zō (Statue of Humanity), facing rival treasure hunters, ancient magic, and otherworldly threats.

Gameplay blends traditional JRPG top‑down exploration of towns, dungeons, and over world maps with first‑person, menu‑driven battles triggered by random encounters. Combat is straightforward but punctuated by short attack animations, while the Mega‑CD’s hardware is used to deliver animated cutscenes, Redbook CD music, and extensive voice acting that mirrors the tone of the OVA adaptations. The presentation leans heavily into the source material’s mix of action, mystery, and emotional beats, making it feel like an interactive chapter of the anime.

Seima Densetsu 3×3 Eyes faithful retelling of the manga’s opening saga and its use of the Mega‑CD’s multimedia capabilities to create a more cinematic RPG experience than most of its contemporaries. It stands as both a time capsule of early ’90s anime game design and a rare example of a licensed title that closely mirrors its source’s atmosphere and pacing.
