DTS

Digital Theatre Systems (DTS) is a lossy multi-channel audio codec typically operating at higher bitrates (768 kbps to 1.5 Mbps) than Dolby Digital. It utilizes less aggressive psychoacoustic compression, yielding higher fidelity dynamic range and high-frequency retention. Within the sixth generation, PlayStation 2 titles occasionally leveraged DTS for real-time gameplay as the software encoding was notably less taxing on the Emotion Engine than AC-3.
