A Way Out follows the intertwined story of two prison escapees, Leo and Vincent, as they navigate a series of cinematic set-pieces and emotionally charged decisions.
The game’s structure emphasises asymmetrical cooperation, either split-screen or online. Each player experiencing different perspectives and tasks that converge through scripted events and branching dialogue.
Its design challenges conventional single-player norms, using split-screen storytelling to reinforce character dynamics and player interdependence. It remains stand out the handful of co-op games of its era, up there with It Takes Two and Unravel.
