Resident Evil: Revelations
バイオハザード リベレーションズA high-definition port of the episodic survival-horror game, combining the confined exploration of the earlier series with over-the-shoulder combat, multiple playable characters, and an expanded cooperative Raid Mode.
Description
Resident Evil: Revelations was originally released for Nintendo 3DS in 2012. It is set in 2005 between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, the story follows BSAA agents Jill Valentine and Parker Luciani as they search for Chris Redfield aboard the abandoned cruise ship Queen Zenobia. Their investigation becomes connected to the destruction of the floating city Terragrigia, the terrorist organisation Il Veltro, and the spread of the aquatic T-Abyss virus. The story is arranged like a television series, using episodes, recaps, cliffhangers, and shifts between several groups of characters to reveal events aboard the ship and elsewhere around the Mediterranean.
The ship setting provides the strongest survival-horror elements, with narrow corridors, locked rooms, concealed supplies, puzzles, and repeated journeys through previously explored sections. Characters move and aim from an over-the-shoulder perspective and can walk while firing, although ammunition and healing items are sufficiently restricted to encourage careful shooting. The principal enemies are Ooze, distorted aquatic creatures that emerge from ventilation shafts, containers, and flooded areas, alongside more specialised mutations and large bosses. The Genesis scanner reveals hidden ammunition, handprints, and other items, while scanning enemies contributes towards earning healing supplies. Later episodes place greater emphasis on gunfights and larger action sequences, creating an uneven but varied mixture of exploration, horror, and the action-oriented design of contemporary Resident Evil games.
This PS4 version brought the originally 3DS title to 1080p60 on a home console with improved environmental detail, refined enemy movement, and all previously released downloadable content incorporated into the package. This release includes The Ghost Ship: Chaos, enemies reaching level 70, new weapon parts, revised interface indicators, additional trophies, and unlockable characters including Rachel Ooze and Lady HUNK. The main campaign remains single-player, and its origins as a handheld game remain visible in compact environments, repeated locations, uneven texture quality, and short episodic sections. Overall as a modern game on a PC or home console it is one of the weaker Resident Evil entries, with the episodic structure ill-fitting, and broadly reflective of this era of the series and the games industry more generally.
