Resident Evil 6
バイオハザード6An action-heavy entry in the horror series combining four interconnected campaigns, extensive cooperative play, cinematic set pieces, and an unusually flexible combat system.
Description
Resident Evil 6 unfolds through separate campaigns starring Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Jake Muller, and Ada Wong, whose paths intersect during a worldwide bioterrorist crisis. Each campaign emphasises a different variation of third-person action, ranging from dark encounters with zombies to military firefights, pursuits, vehicle sequences, boss battles, and escape scenes. Most chapters support two-player cooperative play locally or online, with computer-controlled partners used in single-player.
During gameplay characters can fire while moving, dodge or roll in several directions, slide across the ground, shoot from a prone position, perform counterattacks, and use context-sensitive melee techniques. Enemies include conventional zombies, heavily mutating J’avo soldiers, large bio-organic creatures, and campaign-specific bosses whose transformations become increasingly elaborate. Skill points collected from defeated enemies are spent on abilities affecting weapon damage, defence, item discovery, and other attributes, with different skill sets equipped between sections. The campaigns are substantial and occasionally intersect, allowing separate groups of online players to enter the same encounter, while Mercenaries mode concentrates the combat system into timed score challenges against continuous waves of enemies.
The PlayStation 4 release increases the original PS3 and Xbox 360 game to 1080p and 60 frames per second. It includes the additional modes and content previously released separately, with multiplayer modes such as Survivors, Predator, Onslaught, and Siege available from the beginning. No substantial changes were made to the level design, narrative, or campaign structure, although the later control and QTE adjustments are incorporated. Although the improved performance makes the game much more playable, it does not resolve more fundamental issues of sudden quick-time events, intrusive set pieces, uneven pacing, restrictive scripted sequences, and camera movement interrupting combat. Nonetheless, the four campaigns provide considerable variety and volume, but their different styles prevent the game from establishing a coherent identity, moving far from survival horror toward an exaggerated cooperative action game.
