Rocket Arena (Mythic Edition)

An explosive third-person 3v3 shooter where players wield rocket launchers and unique abilities to blast opponents out of dynamic arenas. The game emphasises high mobility through rocket jumping, dodging, and wall climbing, creating a fast-paced, skill-based combatenvironment with a focus on team coordination and tactical play. A physical copy of this game that quickly went free to play before dying.

Description

Rocket Arena builds upon the core gameplay of rocket-powered combat by offering a diverse roster of heroes, each with distinct rockets and special abilities such as gravity bombs, water attacks, and charged bolts. Players fill a Blast Meter when hit, and once full, being struck by a rocket sends characters flying out of the arena for an elimination. The lively arenas are designed to encourage vertical movement, quick reflexes, and positioning, while modes range from traditional team deathmatch variants to objective-based gameplay like Rocketball and Treasure Hunt. The vibrant visual style and accessible mechanics make it engaging for a wide age range while maintaining surprising depth and competitive potential. The Mythic Edition provides access to all characters, maps, and modes without monetisation gating, making it a complete package for fans of fast, action-packed multiplayer shooters.

Despite Rocket Arena having strong core gameplay that was polished and fun, it did not offer a sufficiently unique hook, especially after a shift from first-person to third-person perspective during development. The game failed badly due to a combination of factors centred around its market positioning and player retention. Its price tag at launch was considered too high for a multiplayer-only game, especially in a saturated market crowded with well-established free multiplayer shooters like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Hyper Scape, which made standing out and securing player time a significant challenge. The game also retained many monetisation features typical of free-to-play games, such as micro-transactions and battle passes, despite its premium pricing. Player numbers dropped rapidly after launch, with concurrent players falling below 100 within a few months. The lack of a compelling reason for players to invest long-term time combined with limited content depth at launch contributed to waning interest. These issues led to poor player retention and ultimately resulted in the game’s servers shutting down in March 2024.
