Description
The Pro Controller Charging Cable was provided with the Wii U Pro Controller as the official charging cable. It plugs into the controller’s top port and can connect either to the Wii U console itself or to any powered USB source such as a PC or wall adapter.
It is a USB‑A to USB Mini-B lead, reflecting the early 2010s era: consoles had began to move away from proprietary connectors, although Mini-B was quickly supplanted by Micro-B, as used on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One controllers, before USB‑C became ubiquitous outside of Apple devices.
In terms of electronic specifications, the cable delivers the standard USB output of 5V DC at up to 500mA, which is sufficient to recharge the controller’s internal lithium‑ion battery. Charging typically takes around 4–5 hours from empty to full, and the controller can be used while charging. The cable length is approximately 1.5 meters, giving enough reach for play during charging without being cumbersome. There’s no fast charging here but the Wii U Pro Controller’s battery life was quite extensive, often exceeding 80 hours per charge.
Third‑party alternatives often offered longer cables or reinforced connectors, but Nintendo’s official version was generally more than sufficient. Given the battery life, the cable was more about convenience than frequent necessity.
