Driveclub VR

A deeply immersive, if sometimes divisive, high‑speed racing PSVR showcase.

Description

Driveclub VR is a standalone virtual reality take on the original Driveclub (2014) experience, rebuilt for PlayStation VR. It delivers cockpit-based racing across around 80 cars and over 80 tracks, including five new city circuits exclusive to the VR version. It pairs the original’s full event structure with immersive VR perspectives, a tour-mode campaign, time trials, drift challenges, and a relaxed “Cruise” mode to enjoy scenic routes.

For early adopters many VR titles were a short “VR experience” or tech demo. On the positive side this was a full‑scale racer with over 80 cars, dozens of tracks, and the same club‑based online structure as the original Driveclub. The cockpit detail, lighting inside vehicles, and the ability to naturally look into corners or check mirrors were praised as immersive touches, and for many PSVR owners it served as a solid introduction to seated VR racing. However, the transition from PS4 to VR came with big compromises. To hit the higher frame rates VR demands, the visuals took a noticeable hit: reduced trackside detail, softer image quality, and the loss of the original game’s standout weather effects. Finally, it really hurt having no way to carry over progress from the standard Driveclub, meaning you had to start from scratch.
