Description
Zelda no Densetsu: Yottsu no Tsurugi+ (The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Plus), known internationally as The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, is a spiritual successor to the GBA’s Four Swords, expanded the concept into a full-length campaign called Hyrulean Adventure, playable solo or with up to four players using Game Boy Advance systems as controllers via link cables.
The tone is a mix of traditional Zelda heroics and lighthearted chaos: puzzles and battles demand teamwork, but the ever-present rupee tally encourages playful sabotage. The game’s episodic structure with eight worlds, each with three stages and a boss, gives it a brisk arcade-like rhythm, while its visuals blend A Link to the Past’s perspective with atmospheric effects inspired by The Wind Waker, such as drifting cloud shadows, heat shimmer, and fog.
Beyond the main quest, a competitive Shadow Battle mode pits Links against each other in small arenas, and the Japanese-exclusive Navi Trackers offered a voice-guided scavenger hunt. Critics praised its inventive multiplayer design, tight controls, and nostalgic presentation, though the requirement for multiple GBAs and link cables made the full experience hard to access for many players. This unusual hardware setup, combined with its blend of cooperation and competition, has given Four Swords Adventures remains a distinctive gameplay experience in the Zelda series and more broadly.
