Zelda no Densetsu: Kaze no Takuto

ゼルダのでんせつ かぜのタクト

A cel-shaded epic where Link sails a vast ocean to rescue his sister and thwart Ganondorf, using the magical Wind Waker baton to command the very winds.

Description

Zelda no Densetsu: Kaze no Takuto (The Legend of Zelda: Baton of Wind), stylised as The Legend of Zelda -Takt of Wind- and known internationally as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The game marked a bold stylistic shift for the series with its vibrant cel-shaded art and expressive character animation. Set hundreds of years after Ocarina of Time in the “Adult Link” timeline, the game unfolds across the Great Sea, a flooded Hyrule dotted with islands to explore.

Players guide a young Link on a quest to save his kidnapped sister Aryll, uncover the fate of the ancient kingdom, and stop the returning Ganondorf. Sailing between islands, solving intricate dungeons, and manipulating wind direction with the titular baton form the heart of the gameplay, blending classic Zelda puzzle-solving with a sense of open-sea adventure.

While some players initially balked at the “cartoon” visuals, critics praised its charm, emotional storytelling, and technical artistry, earning it a perfect score from Famitsu and cementing it as one of the GameCube’s most celebrated titles. Retrospectively the cel-shaded visuals have aged substantially better than its contemporaries resulting in a great HD remaster.
