SPY × ANYA: Operation Memories
スパイファミリー オペレーションダイアリーA slice‑of‑life adventure where players help Anya complete her school photo diary by exploring locations, playing mini‑games, and capturing moments with the Forger family, offering a light and playful companion piece to the SPY x FAMILY series.
Description
SPY × ANYA: Operation Memories is a light‑hearted adventure game based on the popular manga and anime series SPY × FAMILY. Developed by Groove Box Japan and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, it was first released for the Nintendo Switch in Japan in December 2023, before arriving worldwide in June 2024 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC. Unlike the espionage‑driven plots of the source material, the game takes a slice‑of‑life approach, focusing on Anya Forger’s everyday experiences.
The story begins when Anya is given a school assignment to create a photo diary. This simple premise drives the gameplay: players guide Anya through her daily routine at Eden Academy and accompany her on weekend outings with her family and friends. Each outing provides opportunities to capture memorable moments, which can then be added to her diary. The tone is deliberately playful and whimsical, reflecting Anya’s perspective as a child caught up in both ordinary and extraordinary situations.
Gameplay is structured around exploration, photography, and mini‑games. Players can visit a variety of locations such as the park, beach, aquarium, and art museum, each offering unique scenes to photograph. Over fifteen mini‑games are included, ranging from dodgeball at school to puzzle‑style challenges, ensuring variety across the diary‑building process. Customisation is another key feature: Anya, Loid, Yor, and Bond can be dressed in dozens of unlockable outfits and accessories, adding a personal touch to diary entries.
If you’re a fan of the series you will appreciate its faithful recreation of the anime’s humour and warmth, as well as the chance to spend time with the Forger family in a relaxed, interactive format. This game had a fairly limited physical release. The PS4 had no physical release, while the PS5 was only available in Japan. The Switch version was released in Japan, Europe, and Australia. There were different local release dates published: 26 June (Gamesmen), 28 June (JB), and 5 July (GameFAQs). Since 28 June is the EU release date on GameFAQs, I’ll go with that.
