Unlike the mainline entries, this spin‑off was created specifically for younger audiences, adapting the series’ mechanics into a more accessible form. The game featured 31 songs drawn from contemporary pop artists, children’s television, and traditional nursery rhymes. Tracks included mainstream hits such as Demi Lovato’s Give Your Heart a Break, Selena Gomez & the Scene’s Hit the Lights, and Owl City’s Fireflies, alongside family‑friendly classics like Kenny Loggins’ Footloose and Harry Belafonte’s Day‑O (The Banana Boat Song).

Gameplay emphasised simplified choreography, with on‑screen dancers performing moves tailored for children to follow easily. The Wii U and Xbox 360 Kinect versions incorporated motion tracking for more precise scoring, whereas the Wii release relied on the console’s motion controllers.
