Just Dance Kids 2014
A rhythm and dance game designed as the third and final entry in Ubisoft’s Just Dance Kids spin‑off series, with simplified choreography and a soundtrack tailored for children.
Description
Just Dance Kids 2014 was developed by Ubisoft Osaka as part of the broader Just Dance franchise. Unlike the mainline entries, this spin‑off was created specifically for younger audiences, adapting the series’ mechanics into a more accessible form. The game featured 31 songs drawn from contemporary pop artists, children’s television, and traditional nursery rhymes. Tracks included mainstream hits such as Demi Lovato’s Give Your Heart a Break, Selena Gomez & the Scene’s Hit the Lights, and Owl City’s Fireflies, alongside family‑friendly classics like Kenny Loggins’ Footloose and Harry Belafonte’s Day‑O (The Banana Boat Song).
Gameplay emphasised simplified choreography, with on‑screen dancers performing moves tailored for children to follow easily. Costumes and routines were designed to be bright, approachable, and age‑appropriate, while modes included solo play, group routines, and family‑oriented challenges. The Wii U and Xbox 360 Kinect versions incorporated motion tracking for more precise scoring, whereas the Wii release relied on the console’s motion controllers.
The game succeeded in making the Just Dance formula accessible to children, though its limited tracklist and simplified mechanics meant it lacked the depth of the mainline series. It was the closing chapter of the Kids sub‑series, marking Ubisoft’s transition toward integrating family‑friendly tracks directly into the main Just Dance catalogue rather than maintaining a separate line.
