Taiko no Tatsujin Wii

太鼓の達人Wii

A family rhythm game built around simple drum hits, party play, and a large spread of popular songs.

Description

Taiko no Tatsujin Wii brings the arcade style taiko rhythm format into the home through either a “Taiko and Bachi” drum controller, while also supporting Wii Remote and Classic Controller play. The core rules remain direct: notes scroll across the screen, and the player strikes the drum face or rim in time with the music.

The game includes 70 songs, mixing J pop, anime themes, children’s songs, classical arrangements, game music, and Namco original tracks. Nintendo’s listing names songs such as “Kiseki”, “Shuchishin”, “Niji”, “Soba ni Iru ne”, “Natsu Matsuri”, “Together”, “Yume o Kanaete Doraemon”, “Anpanman no March”, “Mickey Mouse March”, and “Super Mario Bros.” as part of the selection. Family Mii characters can appear as dancers during performance, lyrics are shown for songs with vocals, and a new oversized note type called “kyodai onpu” appears on the note lane. The game also adds home focused play features such as different difficulty choices for two players, freely selectable performance options, and a Daily Challenge Dojo that gives the player short tasks for practice and unlock progress.

This Wii release was the first Taiko no Tatsujin title on the system and was followed by several further Wii entries, including Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Do Don to 2 Daime!, Minna de Party 3 Daime!, Kettei Ban, and Chou Gouka Ban. Retrospectively the game is notable for its song list, especially its Namco original selection and the inclusion of the then current “2000” series tracks, although it also has demanding unlock conditions by modern standards.
