Description
PlayTV was a peripheral and software package for the PlayStation 3, initially release in the UK before other PAL territories including Australia and New Zealand. It was essentially a DVB‑T digital television tuner and this DVR software that turned the PS3 into a set‑top box with recording capabilities.
The software provided a full interface for live TV, recording, and playback. Users could pause and rewind live broadcasts, record one channel while watching another, and schedule recordings through a seven‑day electronic programme guide. All recordings were stored on the PS3’s hard drive and could be browsed in a dedicated library or exported to the XMB video menu. PlayTV also integrated with Sony’s Remote Play feature, allowing live or recorded television to be streamed to a PlayStation Portable or certain Sony Ericsson phones over Wi‑Fi or the internet. This meant you could, for example, set a recording or watch live TV remotely while away from home.
