DCL – The Game

The official Drone Champions League simulator, offering authentic FPV racing physics, multiple control modes, and large‑scale online competition. Although very niche, it serves as both an accessible introduction to drone racing and a serious training tool for aspiring professionals.

Description

DCL – The Game was designed as both a competitive esport and a training tool for aspiring drone pilots. It launched for Windows via Steam and Epic Games, and shortly after for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is notable for its official ties to the Drone Champions League, the premier international competition for professional drone racing teams.

The core of the game lies in its flight physics system, which offers multiple control modes to suit different skill levels. Arcade Mode simplifies altitude and stability for newcomers, GPS Mode mimics the feel of consumer camera drones, Angle Mode provides stabilised racing controls, and Acro Mode delivers full manual control, replicating the experience of professional first‑person‑view (FPV) drone racing. This tiered system allows players to gradually progress from casual flying to the demanding precision required in real‑world competition.

The game features 27 tracks, many of which are based on real Drone Champions League circuits, including locations such as snow‑covered mountains, futuristic stadiums, and cityscapes. Online multiplayer supports up to 30 players simultaneously, creating large‑scale races that mirror the spectacle of live DCL events. Players can also compete in time trials, freestyle challenges, and qualification events that connect directly to real‑world tournaments. Progression is tied to unlocking over 60 drone skins and trails, allowing for personalisation, while the soundtrack and presentation emphasise the high‑energy, futuristic atmosphere of drone racing.

Reception was generally positive within the drone racing community, although it has a steep learning curve in advanced modes for regular people. The game’s physics were praised for their authenticity, with professional pilots noting that the Acro Mode in particular provides a valuable training ground for real FPV racing. So a rather niche ‘game’ offering both a competitive esport platform and a bridge between virtual and physical drone racing.
