A music‑themed action RPG that combines dungeon exploration with a strong emphasis on orchestral atmosphere and collectible presentation.
Description
AereA (Collector’s Edition) presents a fantasy world where harmony has been disrupted and the player, as one of several disciples, must recover sacred instruments to restore balance. The game is structured around a hub from which quests branch out into floating islands, each themed around different musical motifs. Combat is real‑time and character abilities are tied to instruments, such as a harp functioning as a bow or a trumpet doubling as a firearm.
The title sits within a lineage of action RPGs that experiment with thematic framing, recalling how Eternal Sonata used classical music as a narrative device or how Bastion tied narration to player action. While AereA leans more on traditional dungeon crawling, its emphasis on music as both aesthetic and mechanic sets it apart. Despite the charm of its orchestral presentation and the novelty of its theme, the gameplay is repetitive compared to contemporaries.
The physical Collector’s Edition includes an artbook and soundtrack CD, highlighting the game’s visual design and orchestral score, which were central to its identity. The Collector’s Edition packaging reflects a trend of boutique releases that appeal to collectors, similar to how smaller publishers have offered enhanced editions of games like Owlboy or Hyper Light Drifter, where physical extras reinforce the artistic qualities of the work.
