Gran Turismo 7

グランツーリスモ7

A racing simulation game developed that continues the long‑running series with a focus on realistic driving physics, extensive car collecting, and detailed track recreation.

Description

Gran Turismo 7 is the seventh mainline entry in the Gran Turismo series following Gran Turismo 6 (2013, PlayStation 3) and Gran Turismo Sport (2017, PlayStation 4). The game is built around car collecting, technical mastery, and competitive racing, presenting itself as both a celebration of automotive culture and a platform for esports competition.

The central progression mode is the GT Café, which guides players through themed collections of cars, challenges, and races. Completing these collections unlocks new events, tracks, and vehicles, creating a sense of progression that recalls earlier entries in the series. The game includes more than 550 cars from over 70 manufacturers, ranging from everyday production models to rare racing machines, and features 41 locations with 121 track layouts. Real circuits such as Spa‑Francorchamps, Suzuka, and the Nürburgring sit alongside fictional series staples like Trial Mountain and Deep Forest.

The gameplay in Gran Turismo 7 emphasises precision driving and customisation. Players can tune performance through detailed adjustments to suspension, tyres, and aerodynamics, while also modifying visual aspects such as paint, decals, and body kits. The handling model incorporates a balance between grip and drift, allowing cars to be tailored to different driving styles. Building upon PSVR support in Gran Turismo Sport, the game supports the PlayStation VR2, offering a full virtual reality driving mode, and integrates the Sophy AI system to provide more realistic computer‑controlled opponents. Regular updates expand the roster of cars and tracks, with the Spec III update in December 2025 adding new vehicles such as the Ferrari 296 GT3 and Renault Espace F1, alongside new circuits like Yas Marina and Circuit Gilles‑Villeneuve.

The game was praised for its visual fidelity, car variety, and the return of a structured campaign after the more online‑focused Gran Turismo Sport, although the legacy it left – the always‑online requirement, microtransactions, and limited single‑player rewards remain the greatest criticisms. Overall however GT7 restores the traditional progression structure of the series while modernising its presentation and expanding its online features, providing both a single‑player driving experience and a competitive platform.
