Green Yarn Yoshi (Yoshi’s Woolly World Series)

Description

The Green Yarn Yoshi from the Yoshi’s Woolly World series differs from regular amiibo figures moulded from plastic, as is constructed as a small plush figure using real yarn, reflecting the handcrafted textile appearance of its associated game. Green Yoshi was released alongside Pink and Light-Blue variants, with the substantially larger Mega Yarn Yoshi following later. This colour also accompanied Yoshi’s Woolly World in a retail bundle alongside being sold separately.

When scanned in Yoshi’s Woolly World on Wii U, it activates Double Yoshi mode, a computer-controlled companion that duplicates the player’s movements. The companion can help collect items, attack enemies, and reach difficult positions, but its mirrored movement can also require careful coordination. Players can additionally save a customised yarn pattern to the amiibo and carry that design between compatible copies of the game. The same Double Yoshi and pattern-storage functions are supported in Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World for Nintendo 3DS. In other titles the figure is generally recognised as either Green Yarn Yoshi, Yarn Yoshi, or a standard Yoshi amiibo. In Super Mario Maker, it unlocks a Green Yarn Yoshi Mystery Mushroom costume with associated sound effects; in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it unlocks a Yoshi-themed Mii racing suit; and in Yoshi’s Crafted World, it provides a character-themed costume.

The Green Yarn Yoshi is notable for translating the visual identity of Yoshi’s Woolly World into the physical construction of the amiibo itself. Its soft body and concealed electronic tag depart substantially from the sculpted bases and rigid figures used by most of the range, while still supporting both read-only bonuses and stored data in compatible games.
