Mini HDMI Adapter
An adapter that converts the analog output of classic Nintendo consoles to HDMI allowing convenient plug-in play with modern displays.
Description
The Mini HDMI Adapter is a small, fully self-contained unit that adapts the Nintendo multi AV output to a HDMI connection. It supports NTSC and PAL versions of the AV Famicom, Super Nintendo/Super Famicom, Nintendo 64, and GameCube. The adapter outputs a 720p video, scaled up from the original 480i/240p source. It defaults to converting the superior s-video output, except on units that do not output this, such as the PAL GameCube, falling back to composite video. The adapter contains a single physical switch to vary between 4:3 and 16:9 video output, ideal for the small number of titles that supported 16:9 anamorphic output.
Notably the unit does not make any substantial improvements to the image or have filters and options, making it a simple plug-in place solution rather than a high-end, customisable solution. The main selling point here is convenience. With modern technology, these solutions have become incredibly small, and cost-effective. For any serious set up, it will not replace high-quality RGB cabling and a high-end scaler solution. However, for more casual use or a quick setup these are quite good. I’ve found this particularly great for testing old systems with a modern monitor.
