Super Nintendo Classic Mini Control Deck

ニンテンドークラシックミニ コントローラー

A dedicated miniature console designed to replicate the original Super Nintendo hardware in a compact form, combining nostalgic aesthetics with modern digital functionality.

Description

The Control Deck retains the visual identity of the 1990s Super Nintendo/Super Famicom design, including its rounded contours, colour scheme, and front-facing controller ports, scaled down for convenience. Internally, it replaces cartridge-based architecture with an integrated flash memory system, preloaded with a curated library of twenty-one classic titles. Additional titles could be added through existing third-party software tools.

Inside the system contains a semi-custom single-board computer similar to a Raspberry Pi. It is primarily powered by a Allwinner R16 system-on-chip featuring a quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU paired with an ARM Mali‑400 MP2 GPU. The unit is equipped with 256 MB of DDR3 RAM and 512 MB of NAND flash storage. The video output is delivered via HDMI at 720p/60 Hz, and power is supplied through a USB micro-B connection. It runs on a custom Linux-based operating system optimised for low-latency emulation and user interface performance.

Functionally, the Control Deck functions like an appliance providing authentic SNES gameplay through its faithful controller replicas, while introducing modern conveniences such as save states, rewind capability, and display filter options. It does not support physical media or official software expansion, reinforcing its role as a fixed retro experience. Contemporary reception praised the console’s build quality, user interface, and nostalgic design, while criticism focused on its limited game selection and lack of post-launch updates. Retrospectively a significant milestone in the rise of dedicated retro consoles, which left competitors trying (but failing) to match.
