Wonder Boy
スーパーワンダーボーイWonder Boy on the Master System is a colourful, side-scrolling platformer with arcade roots, Originally developed by Escape (later Westone). It blends fast-paced running, jumping, and skateboard-riding with a quirky survival twist: your health constantly ticks down unless you grab fruit. Compared to Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros., Wonder Boy feels more frantic and momentum-driven, with less focus on exploration and more on timing. Though it shares DNA with Hudson Soft’s Adventure Island (a licensed offshoot on Nintendo systems), Wonder Boy on the Master System stands out for its sharper visuals and more varied level design. It is a vibrant example of Sega’s early arcade-to-home translations.
