Satellite
Yet another cartridge for the Sega Saturn that boots games region-free, but not much else.
Description
The Satellite was a late‑life accessory for the Sega Saturn, after EMS had already established its Action Replay Plus 4M cartridge.
Historical catalogues and SKU sequencing place the Satellite as product No.9603, following the Action Replay Pro (No.9601) and Action Replay Plus 4M (No.9602). Unlike the Plus 4M, which was designed to support Capcom and SNK’s RAM‑hungry fighting games, the Satellite was marketed more as a multifunction import‑enabler, primarily offering region bypass. It is notable that EMS’s Action Replays were not licensed by Datel and was marketed independently as a compatible alternative.
The Satellite is one of many Saturn cartridges that enabled booting imports. They became increasingly in demand as the Saturn lost support in the west during the middle of its life but remaining popular and well supported in Asia. The large library of quality titles was otherwise unavailable on western consoles.
The Satellite has pretty limited use today. It might be a candidate to install Pseudo Saturn on. I used to sell these, I believe I kept one for myself but might need to stock check.
