Description

Astro Bot game builds on the legacy of Astro’s Playroom (2020) pre-installed on every PlayStation 5 and Astro Bot: Rescue Mission (2018, PS4) for the PlayStation VR, expanding the series into a full‑scale adventure. Players control Astro, a small robot hero, on a quest to rescue lost Bots and recover parts for the PlayStation 5 mothership while battling the alien antagonist Nebulax. The campaign spans six galaxies and 90 levels, each blending platforming, combat, and puzzle elements.

Traversal between levels is handled via the “Dual Speeder,” a spaceship styled after the DualSense controller, which also serves as a hub for exploration. The game makes extensive use of the DualSense’s adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and motion controls, reinforcing its identity as a showcase for the PS5 hardware. It’s a genuine pleasure to see the controller being used to its fullest.

Astro Bot was praised for its inventive level design, joyful presentation, and sheer variety, with many comparing it favourably to Nintendo’s Super Mario series. It became the highest‑rated game of 2024 on Metacritic, won Game of the Year at The Game Awards, the BAFTA Games Awards, and the D.I.C.E. Awards, and sold over 2.3 million copies by March 2025 — making it one of the best‑selling PS5 exclusives.
