Description

Croket! Ban-King no Kiki o Sukue is the fifth game based on the series and follows Croket, a young Banker who collects magical Forbidden Coins in the hope of restoring his deceased father. This adventure sends him across seven main stages to protect the Bank King and oppose a new threat, with dialogue performed by actors from the Japanese anime. The game remained exclusive to Japan.

Stages alternate between enclosed combat areas, open fields, obstacle courses, and conventional 3D platforming. Croket attacks with punches and his large hammer, destroys nearby structures to uncover items, and defeats groups of enemies before confronting familiar characters in one-on-one battles. Defeated opponents can become special attacks or support abilities, while coloured crystals and other collectibles are scattered throughout the environments. Alongside the story missions are survival challenges, competitive multiplayer, and several minigames. The GameCube edition can connect to a Game Boy Advance, which functions as a radar and provides access to rare data unavailable through the PlayStation 2 version.

The detailed character models, original voice cast, varied environments, and straightforward combat capture the energetic style of the anime, but the action is shallow and enemies can often be trapped by repeatedly using the same attack. Platforming is less reliable, with imprecise jumping, awkward camera positioning, and trial-and-error obstacles creating avoidable frustration. The campaign is reasonable but short, only a few hours. Much of its additional value depends on collecting items and replaying secondary modes. Overall one of many Japanese-exclusive anime tie-in titles on the GameCube that provided a superior experience to their PS2 version, ideal for fans of the series but not much more.
