Wii U Console (32 GB) (Shiro)

Description

The Wii U Console (32 GB) (Shiro) is the premium model with increased internal storage. These could include games pre-installed, depending on the retail package. The basic console variant (model WUP-001) was sold in white and had 8 GB storage, where the 32 GB came in black. This version, released only in Japan, was the exception to this rule providing the higher capacity in white.

The premium model contains 32 GB of internal flash storage, expandable via SDHC cards up to 32 GB and external USB drives up to 2 TB. At its core is the Espresso CPU, a tri‑core IBM PowerPC processor running at 1.24 GHz, paired with the Latte GPU, a 550 MHz AMD Radeon‑based chip. The system is equipped with 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, divided evenly between game processes and system functions. Optical media is handled through 25 GB, BD-based proprietary Wii U discs, with full support for standard Wii discs.

Video output reaches 1080p through HDMI, with compatibility for 1080i, 720p, and 480p, and support for legacy Wii AV cables including component, RGB SCART, and composite. Audio is delivered via six‑channel PCM linear output over HDMI or stereo through the AV Multi Out. Connectivity includes built‑in 802.11b/g/n Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and four USB 2.0 ports. The console retains sensor bar support for Wii controllers and is compatible with Wii U Pro Controllers, Wii Remotes, and other Wii accessories.

The Wii U’s hardware design emphasises integration with the GamePad while maintaining a compact form factor. Its architecture provided modest power compared with contemporaries, but the inclusion of dual‑screen capability and backward compatibility reflected Nintendo’s focus on accessible innovation. The Deluxe model’s expanded storage and numerous bundled accessories distinguished it from the Basic Set, making it the definitive version of the console hardware.
