Timeman One

An educational program designed to teach young children how to read and set an analogue clock through six progressively structured exercises and a simple ladder-climbing reward.

Descripción

Timeman One was intended mainly for children aged four to nine, it divides timekeeping into three stages covering hours, minutes, and hours combined with minutes. Each stage offers separate exercises for reading a displayed time and moving the clock hands to match a written instruction. Five-minute intervals provide an accessible starting point, while an optional one-minute setting increases the difficulty for older or more confident users. A large clock occupies most of the screen, with a small character positioned halfway up a ladder. Correct answers move him upwards by two steps, while mistakes move him down one step and provide another attempt. After a second incorrect answer, the program displays the correct solution before continuing. Reaching the top causes the character to plant a flag and perform a short dance accompanied by music, giving each exercise session a visible objective.

The presentation is basic and the exercises inevitably become repetitive, which may be bad for a game but ideal for early childhood education. The clear clock face, gradual introduction of each hand, forgiving retry system, and adjustable accuracy make it a practical teaching tool. Its BES monitoring facilities can record individual pupils’ results and identify areas of difficulty, which contributed to its use in schools. It was released alongside Timeman Two, which provided more advanced learning lessons.
