Description

The Sims 4: Get to Work is the first expansion pack for The Sims 4, and introduces three new active careers: Doctor, Detective, and Scientist. Unlike traditional “rabbit hole” jobs, these careers allow players to accompany Sims to the hospital, police station, or science lab, completing tasks that influence promotions and story outcomes.

In addition to careers, the pack adds the ability to own and manage retail businesses, a feature reminiscent of The Sims 2: Open for Business. Players can purchase lots, customise them as shops, bakeries, clothing stores, or galleries, and manage staff, pricing, and customer satisfaction. This mechanic expands the entrepreneurial side of gameplay, allowing Sims to build wealth outside of standard careers.

The expansion also introduces the Magnolia Promenade neighbourhood, a small commercial district designed for retail lots. A new life state, Aliens, is added, complete with abductions, disguises, and the hidden alien world of Sixam. Two new skills of photography and baking further broaden creative and business opportunities.

It is a spiritual successor to The Sims 3: Ambitions and The Sims 2: Open for Business, emphasising occupational and entrepreneurial activities. The active careers and retail system for adding depth and variety to gameplay, though the Magnolia Promenade felt limited compared to other worlds. Retrospectively, Get to Work was a start of the expansions for The Sims 4 that would continue in later packs.
