AC Adapter

A AC to DC power supply for the early Atari system.

Description

This AC Adapter is the official power supply for the Atari 2600 console, released alongside the console in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It is a genuine Atari‑branded adaptor, designed to deliver the correct voltage and current for the system.

This adaptor was one of several regional variants produced to match local electrical standards. The C018084‑209 specifically refers to a unit distributed in markets such as Australia and Europe, where it was configured for 240V mains power. Because the Atari 2600 was sold internationally over many years, multiple part numbers exist for its power supplies, each tailored to different regions.

Functionally, it converts household AC into the regulated 9V DC output required by the Atari 2600, ensuring stable operation of the console.  Its design is typical of the era: a rectangular black brick with a fixed cable terminating in the proprietary plug for the console’s power port.

Today these are more collectable than functional. A 9V output is easily replaced with a USB QC/PD supply, while original Atari‑branded power supplies are treated as collectible accessories.
