Instruction Manual
A single‑game electronic device that is the third instalment in the original series of Digimon virtual pets. This is the Asian export version, featuring a yellow on blue device colour.
Description
Digital Monster Ver. 3, originally released in Japan in March 1998, features a roster of 14 trainable Digimon. This version focuses on creatures often associated with desert and underground environments, featuring Poyomon and Tokomon as its base forms and introducing the popular Patamon alongside the insectoid Kunemon. The device follows the standard Five-Stage evolution cycle, beginning with a hatching egg and progressing through Baby I, Baby II, Child (Rookie), Adult (Champion), and finally the Perfect (Ultimate) stage.
Version 3 is distinguished by its unique “Power Building” training minigame. To increase a Digimon’s strength, players must rapidly mash the B button to build a power meter toward 100%, a physical mechanic that differs from the timing-based training of the later Version 4. Reaching the most powerful evolutionary forms, such as Andromon, Giromon, or the series-favorite Etemon, requires strict discipline: the pet typically needs at least 15 battles during both its Child and Adult stages with a high win percentage to qualify for its final transformation. Like its predecessors, it retains the signature “Battle Connect” metal contacts for competitive play against other units.
This specific Digital Monster Ver. 3 is the official “Asian-English” export released for the Australian and East Asian markets. While it carries the #1857B product ID, it is physically distinct from Japanese versions due to its localization by Bandai (H.K.) Co., Ltd., which provided the bilingual English and Traditional Chinese instruction sheet. These were distinct from the Western releases in America and Europe. The 4892762 barcode prefix was specifically assigned to their Hong Kong and Oceanic distribution branch.
