3DO Company
Description
The 3DO Company was an American video game company founded in 1991 by Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins. Unlike traditional console manufacturers, 3DO acted primarily as a licensor, developing a standardised hardware specification to unify the multimedia landscape. The company eventually pivoted entirely to software development following the commercial failure of its console platform. As a publisher, they cultivated popular strategy and action franchises before succumbing to bankruptcy during the early 2000s industry contraction.
