An episodic graphic adventure game, continuing the story of Clementine as she struggles to survive in a zombie‑ravaged world. Not what I’d normally buy on physical copy but it was being cleared out well below any digital copy price and I joined this series well after it was published.
Description
The Walking Dead: Season Two builds directly on the foundation of the award‑winning first season. Unlike its predecessor, where Clementine was a companion character, here she becomes the main playable protagonist, forcing players to experience the apocalypse through the eyes of a child who has been hardened by loss and survival.
The game retains Telltale’s point‑and‑click adventure structure. Players guide Clementine through environments, interact with objects, and engage in dialogue trees where choices must be made under time pressure. These decisions influence character relationships and story outcomes, with save data from Season One and the additional episode 400 Days carrying over to shape Season Two’s narrative. The episodic format consists of five chapters: All That Remains, A House Divided, In Harm’s Way, Amid the Ruins, and No Going Back. The title explores trust, morality, and survival under constant threat. Clementine’s youth contrasts with the brutal world around her, highlighting the tension between innocence and necessity. The narrative often forces players to choose between loyalty and pragmatism, underscoring the idea that the living can be as dangerous as the undead.
Reception was generally positive for the atmosphere, Clementine’s characterisation, and the emotional weight of decisions. However the season lacked the same impact as its predecessor, with fewer hub areas and less meaningful choice variation. Still, it was recognised for maintaining tension and narrative depth, earning strong reviews and awards nominations. It was followed by later entries like The Walking Dead: A New Frontier. Clementine was one of gaming’s most compelling protagonists in The Walking Dead: Season Two while it demonstrated the strengths and limitations of Telltale’s episodic storytelling model.
