A rhythm‑based party game that builds on a long‑running formula of choreographed routines, expanding its tracklist and online features while also serving as a launch showcase for new hardware.
Description
Just Dance 2017 is the eighth main entry in Ubisoft’s dance series, continuing the template of players mimicking on‑screen choreography to earn points. It introduced a broader range of input methods, from motion controllers and cameras to a smartphone companion app, making it more accessible to households without dedicated peripherals. The game featured a base set of nearly forty songs, with an emphasis on contemporary pop hits, alongside returning classics and novelty tracks. It also integrated the subscription service Just Dance Unlimited, offering hundreds of additional routines on demand, positioning the title as both a standalone release and a gateway to a growing digital library.
There are multiple modes beyond the standard free dance. Dance Quests provided curated challenges, Sweat mode reframed routines as workouts, and the World Dance Floor connected players globally in real‑time competitions. A new Just Dance Machine mode added a light narrative, casting players as abductees helping aliens recharge their ship by dancing through eclectic styles. Compared to earlier entries, this instalment leaned more heavily on online connectivity and community features, reflecting the broader shift in rhythm games toward ongoing content delivery, and subscription business models.
